Artox - The Arctic Fox
These creatures have been blessed with a thick coat of fur that protects and insulates them from the freezing cold and humidity, which makes them a target for the inhabitants of the Frost Lands, who greatly value their pelts, and will pay generous quantities of gold for one if they can't hunt it themselves. The artox can be found in most of the Frost Lands, but prefer to stay in the coastal regions, as fish are available as a food source all year round. When not close to open waters, the artox rely on their extraordinary sense of smell that allows them to locate potential food even if it's miles away. These creatures make invaluable companions for rangers or explorers of frosty regions, being masters at surviving freezing temperatures by burrowing and creating a shelter during a blizzard or tracking potential food with its smell.
The artox are small and have to compete for food against much larger predators, so they are naturally cunning, observing and waiting for the right opportunity to make a move.
Any adventurer with an artox as a companion must ensure never to deceive or mistreat it, for they will take it to heart and leave feeling betrayed.
