Ou - The Owl
The ous are night birds that excel in hunting small rodents and creatures. These birds make no sound when they fly, which allows them to surprise their prey which they can pinpoint thanks to their extraordinary sense of hearing. This creature is a popular companion amongst farmers, who use them for pest control. They are also favored by night hunters, and other adventurers who operate during the night. Because the ous are nocturnal, many peoples associate them with evil magic, regardless that they are amongst the most sociable of companions.
There are several tales of ou saving people. One very famous one is the night raid against the elven settlement of Lenkas. The elves had just finished celebrating the founding of their home. After numerous days of dancing, singing, and wine, the elves were exhausted and slumbered in their homes; unaware that a necromancer and his skeletons were ready to stage an attack against them. The encounter was only prevented from being a slaughter because a ou spotted the advancing menace three miles away and alerted its companion, who in turn rallied all the elves capable of fighting and prepared solid defenses. Ever since then, Lenkas doesn't celebrate only its founding, but they have a ou festival where these creatures are thanked and given all kinds of treats.
