Fungal Zombies - Myceloid Minions

A fungal plague has wreaked havoc on many small villages of Glanbelian Drow in the Underground. Victims of the plague have their bodies deformed and their minds twisted, becoming little more than mindless drones. Yet they all seem to act in unison, suggesting some sort of greater being controlling all the affected.

Myceloids have long been residents of the Underground, living neutrally and somewhat harmoniously with the Glanbelian Drow, though have had their fair share of issues with Irinaxi Drow. But never have they been ones to attack Drow directly or purposefully, so it has left both sides confused to see a fungal plague engulfing villages of Glanbelian Drow through the Underground, presumably a machination of the Myceloids.

The inflicted are trapped in a state of living death, prisoners in their own bodies whose minds are slowly consumed by the fungal parasite that stirs within them.

Yet it seems they are not completely mindless, seemingly answering to a higher power that guides them as an invisible shepherd. Though their places are not with the Myceloid colonies scattered through the Underground, and they instead seem to congregate in darker corners and pits, but for what purpose none can see. The strange behaviour has attracted investigators from both the Irinaxi and Glanbelian Drow, though the precarious circumstances have certainly not stilled the bad blood between them.

The truth, they will discover, is far more nefarious than they could have possibly thought, for a darker entity pulls the strings of these puppets, one which plans to unleash them on the surface world above.
