Searcher is a mechanical construction built by old Cal, a 495 years old Gnomish Inventor terrified by the idea of dying, in order preserve his soul once his body is no longer useful. Cal was 480 when he started building Searcher, which would eventually end up being his body. It was very hard and took quite some time to find a way to transplant his soul and thoughts into the mechanical body. He did hundreds of unsuccessful tests with poor animals before being able to successfully transplant a soul into a mechanical body. Time was running up for Cal, so he figured it was now or never. His body was getting too old and could no longer do the things he did when he was young. His brain was still in very good shape and his imagination and thoughts felt as good as ever. Searcher is the name of the machine he built. But, in essence it is still Cal in there. Not everything went good during the transplant, though. There are several malfunctions on the mechanical body he did not account for. One of them is an error on one his arms, where sometimes it just stops working. He's traveling the world in search of another Inventor with the tools and skillset to fix his broken arm.
